She was born in India and immigrated to Canada at the age of nine. Her childhood and adolescence were spent competing in dance competitions and performing hip hop and jazz for her family.
She has a daughter named Marish, who was born in the year 2011. She does not appear to be married, however, as she has resumed using her maiden name, Sonia Mangat.
“The reason for her existence,” she says of her daughter. As a mother, she attempts to instil in Mariah all of the necessary wisdom and values for her to navigate life with joy and grace.

In her twenties, she worked as a medical lab worker. She did, however, return to school for a broadcasting degree.
Her career began in 2009 when she graduated from BCIT’s journalism school and Columbia Academy’s Broadcasting and Performing Arts department. Her internship at eTalk Toronto piqued her interest in the entertainment sector while also exposing her to the problems that come with it.
She worked as a news reporter and anchor for both TALK-1200 (RJ AM) and CKNW 980 in Vancouver shortly after.
Her days on the radio were also numbered when she was appointed as a weekend weather specialist and feature story reporter by Global Television. Sonia’s achievements were acknowledged not only by her peers and competition, but also by the BC Association of Broadcasters, which would soon present her with the Broadcaster of Tomorrow award.
