The Daily Mail reported that Matt Shirvington has impressed Seven network executives with his presenting abilities and will replace Kochie.

Kochie sparked rumours he was leaving Sunrise after two decades in October before signing a two-year extension to host Sunrise until the end of 2024.

The long-running host’s departure will be gradual. Also, he is expected to reduce the number of days on air gradually until his contract expires.

The Daily Mail wrote that this plan was to prevent viewers from being “spooked” by his departure.

Kochie already has a relaxed presenter schedule and only works four days a week with Fridays off.

Shirvington filled in as Sunrise co-anchor in October while Kochie was on leave.

Post-retirement Kochie hopes to spend more time with his wife Libby and focus on his businesses.

Although, the runner started his broadcasting career in 2005 as a reporter and presenter on Beyond Tomorrow.

Since then he’s had to host gigs on competition series Holey Moley and Ultimate Tag, as a commentator at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and as fill-in host and sports presenter on Sunrise and The Morning Show.
