Glen Powell To Star In The New Adaptation Of ‘Heaven Can Wait’
Glen Powell is known for his roles in movies such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Devotion,” and will star in Paramount Pictures’ remake of the 1978 classic film “Heaven Can Wait.” The project, which is still early in development, has an original script by Oscar-winning writer Stephen Gaghan.
While this new version keeps the original’s interesting idea of a man being taken from life too soon, it does not follow the story of the first film directly, in which an NFL quarterback played by Warren Beatty was the central character. Instead, it is said that Powell’s role will have a similar theme but a different story altogether.”Heaven Can Wait” was co-directed by Beatty and Buck Henry and received nine Academy Award nominations including Best Picture.

The movie was based on Harry Segall’s 1938 play and is a remake of the 1941 film “Here Comes Mr. Jordan,” about a pugilist who dies before his time due to a heavenly mistake but gets another chance at life. The idea behind “Heaven Can Wait” has been done before famously in Chris Rock’s “Down To Earth” (2001) where a man is put into somebody else’s body.
Powell coming on board for the reboot comes amidst a career surge as a leading man after hits like “Anyone But You” opposite Sydney Sweeney among others. Up next he stars in Netflix’s “Hit Man”, Universal’s “Twisters” sequel as well as A24’s revenge thriller drama “Huntington” and Edgar Wright’s adaptation of “The Running Man” with J.J Abrams attached to direct a new project. The news broke when Puck’s “What I’m Hearing” newsletter first reported it then was later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
“Powell’s Slate: ‘Hit Man’, ‘Twisters’, ‘Huntington’, & J.J. Abrams’ Untitled Project”
Glen Powell is in initial talks for a currently untitled film that will be directed by J.J. Abrams. This is on top of other projects he has coming up, such as the action thriller Huntington, the disaster movie Twisters, and the video game adaptation Hitman. Huntington is described as an action thriller starring Powell, which is being developed by the Bad Robot production company behind many projects involved with Abrams although no word whether or not he’ll helm this one himself.
Twisters follows in the tradition set by its 1996 predecessor but this time around directed by Lee Isaac Chung with Powell taking center stage yet again as the lead role player. Agent 47, the lead character in the popular video games called “Hitman” will have his silver screen debut soon when Glen Powell possibly steps into his shoes for what would most likely be an action-packed drama involving lots of sneaky stuff.
Notably absent from any of these films’ credits however is that man we keep hearing about – Mr J J Abrams himself – who seems too busy planning some kind of big secret project to bother working on anything else right now. Even though people know nothing specific about it until today apart from the fact they really should expect something really cool to come out eventually!
Although little is known about it at this time other than the fact that it’s an ‘untitled J.J. Abrams project’ being developed by Bad Robot, J.J. Abrams will direct the film. The untitled J.J. Abrams project will be the first time Glen Powell has worked with him directly, although their collaboration is not limited to this.
Glen Powell And Sydney Sweeney Reunite For New Project
The hit romantic comedy “Anyone But You” stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. The pair, who played lovers in the film, want to work on another project together because they connected so well on screen that it resonated with fans worldwide, earning over $200 million at the box office.
In a series of interviews conducted recently, each actor expressed their enthusiasm over collaborating again. Powell admitted that they were currently looking at scripts but he hasn’t found one that fits them perfectly yet and continued saying “We’re reading through some together, so hopefully we’ll find something there.” Meanwhile, Sweeney teased about something new being in discussions with him earlier today where she mentioned, “I mean Glen and I—I was talking to him this morning about stuff,” before adding a cryptic message: “You never know, you’ll just have to wait and see.”
According to sources close to them both artists are inspired by classic rom-com couples such as Julia Roberts and Richard Gere who after starring together in Pretty Woman went on to do Runaway Bride, as well as Meg Ryan with Tom Hanks who made more than one film collaboration including Sleepless in Seattle which was followed up by You’ve Got Mail.
However, Powell likens their potential team-up to what Matthew McConaughey achieved alongside Kate Hudson during How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. He confirmed that there is no official word out about what they will do next but shared his belief that these two need each other professionally and personally this much so fans should be patient for any announcements or updates because good things come to those who wait.
While nothing has been set in stone yet regarding casting details for the two stars’ next movie project together, excitement among viewers has already reached fever-pitch levels thanks to just how delightful they were within their last effort alone – and it’s precisely why we can’t get enough of them.
Possessing an undeniable connection that transcends the screen, Powell and Sweeney have mastered the art of injecting new life into old conventions that have long-defined romantic comedies. Taking this into account, it is fair to assume that like their predecessors did for the 1990s genre popularity with successful pairings on films; if not better- another one from these two could be instrumental in resuscitating its waning fortunes.
As they sift through potential movie scripts while listening out for any news or updates about upcoming cinema projects involving both parties concerned there may one day be something truly remarkable waiting just around the corner but until then anything less than amazing will always seem like a disappointment.
