“QUEEN OF SPEED” – Tobi Amusan Storms Into Final as Nigeria Shine at African Championships

Nigeria’s medal charge at the African Athletics Championships in Accra received a massive boost as Tobi Amusan and Adaobi Tabugbo both powered into the women’s 100m hurdles final in emphatic fashion.

Amusan, the world record holder, delivered a long awaited semifinal performance, clocking an 12.82 seconds (a season’s best), to win her heat and qualify as the fastest overall athlete heading into the final.

She looked in complete control from start to finish, gliding over the barriers with precision, rhythm, and authority, as she targets another continental crown.

Tobi Amusan sends warning to rivals

The Nigerian superstar announced her presence as the overwhelming favourite, with a dominant run that left the rest of the field trailing.

Speaking after the race, Amusan expressed both gratitude and determination, saying:

“All glory to God. I mean, it just actually fits in that it’s my part one.”

“I’m like, why not start sports? But you know, I’m just thankful to be here representing my country.”

 

 

She also made her ambitions crystal clear ahead of the final:

“Every opportunity I get to step on the line.”

“And I’m looking forward to defending my title. I’m so happy and I’m just here, you know, doing my thing and let God do His thing.”

Clearly soaking in the atmosphere in Accra, she added:

“I mean, it’s an amazing atmosphere.”

“Ghana is always, like, really welcoming when it comes to, like, championships overall.”

“And I’m just excited to be here.”

 

 Adaobi Tabugbo Joins the Party

It wasn’t just Amusan flying the Nigerian flag.

Fellow hurdler, Adaobi Tabugbo also secured her place in the final after an impressive semifinal showing.

She finished third in her heat, but her time was strong enough to earn qualification as one of the fastest losers.

Her progression adds depth to Nigeria’s chances, ensuring the country will have two strong contenders in the final.

 

 All Eyes on the Final

With both athletes through, Nigeria now stands in a powerful position heading into the final race.

  • Amusan will be aiming to translate dominance into gold and defend her title
  • Tabugbo will look push for a podium finish
