Ghana Miss VAR-Awarded Penalty Against Uruguay: In the Friday Group H match against Uruguay, Ghana once again missed a penalty. After Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet fouled Mohammed Kudus, the Black Stars were awarded a penalty.
Ghana Miss VAR-Awarded Penalty Against Uruguay: When Rochet dove to his left to block Andre Ayew’s attempt, the penalty kick was saved.
The punishment was the subject of debate. Rochet’s challenge of Kudus was initially disregarded because a Ghanaian player was in an offside position during the buildup.
VAR prompted the referee to reconsider the choice, and he changed the assistant’s judgment. The player was onside, as evidenced by the replays and semi-assisted offside technology.
At a FIFA World Cup, Ghana has now failed to convert another penalty against Uruguay. The 2010 tournament’s quarterfinal featured a matchup between the two teams.
