She claimed that she and her younger sisters resided with her grandparents while her parents and grandparents lived next door to them.

She described her father as abusive in a television interview, and she claimed that in 1976, her mother and two sisters had been the targets of her father’s fury and beatings.

In 1970, she changed her name to Sacheen Littlefeather. Her father had called her Sacheen before he passed away, and Littlefeather was the name of the feather she had always worn in her hair.

Her lungs gave out when she was 29 years old. After she had recovered, she earned a degree in holistic health and nutrition from Antioch University.

She experienced colon cancer in the 1990s. She reportedly developed radical cancer in 1991.

In 2018, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. She even claimed that by 2021, she would be in a grave condition because cancer had spread to her right lungs.

At the age of 75, Littlefeather passed away at her home in Novato, California, on October 2, 2022.
