5 Fun Ways To Burn Holiday Calories

This is a surefire way to burn some calories and take in the cheeriest views of the season. Spending a few hours strolling about and taking in all the festivities is, in Yeung’s words, “an extraordinarily easy way to burn a lot of additional calories.”

Walking a mile can burn about 100 calories, according to Harvard Health Publishing. (Take note that your weight and walking speed eventually determine this number.) If you choose to walk briskly for 30 minutes, or four miles per hour, five days a week, you’ll log 10 miles in a week. In conclusion, if you consume a constant amount of calories, you will lose one pound in three and a half weeks.

Lace-up your sneakers and keep all of this in mind as you plan out your holiday decor, light displays, and festive activities for the season. The more calories you burn, the faster and more frequently you walk!

Do some winter snow sports

Skiing is a terrific way to get some great cardio, train your lower body and core, and have a great time, according to Yeung, who used to reside in Colorado. However, no one ever mentioned that they went skiing to burn calories.

So choose your poison. There are numerous wonderful wintertime snow sports that you can participate in with companions or alone. According to Pure Michigan, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can burn up to 472 calories per hour, while downhill skiing can burn up to 354 calories per hour.

If you prefer ice skating, strap up your skates and expect to burn 419 calories in an hour. To stay warm and avoid frostbite, wrap up from head to toe in your warmest winter clothes.

Have a snowball fight

It’s time for some good old-fashioned holiday fun that will make you incredibly nostalgic: a snowball fight, so get ready to run, jump, and toss! It’s time of year to head outside and throw some snowballs, whether you gather your friends or your family.

Yeung asserts that one simple method to burn calories and get some exercise is to run around in the snow, hurl snowballs at one another, and display one’s speed and agility.

Go holiday shopping

This is yet another entertaining method to engage in a good cardio workout (while also working out your credit card, since it’s the holiday season). Yeung says, “Take it to the next level by parking your car further away, carrying your bags instead of using a cart, utilizing the stairs instead of taking the elevator, and more.”

Yeung adds, “Walking about the shopping mall all day helps you burn some more calories.”

Make a snowman

Yeung claims that participating in this wintertime sport can improve your physical fitness and aid in burning off the additional calories from the extra gingerbread treats you indulged in. So start making that snowman by taking a page from Frozen!
