Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has shared his thoughts following his first-ever Grammy nomination, revealing a mixture of gratitude and indifference.
The singer earned a nomination for his collaboration with Davido on the hit track “With You,” which is up for Best African Music Performance at the upcoming 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
In a heartfelt post shared via his fan platform on Instagram, Omah Lay expressed excitement over the recognition but made it clear that awards do not define his musical journey.
He emphasised that his artistry goes beyond trophies or public validation, focusing instead on creating meaningful music that connects with his audience.
Despite his nonchalant attitude towards awards, fans flooded his comment section with congratulatory messages, celebrating the milestone as a significant step for his career.
The singer’s heartfelt message to Davido
Interestingly, Omah Lay redirected much of the attention from himself to Davido, his collaborator and friend.
In his post, he praised Davido, whom he affectionately referred to as “OBO” for being a source of support during difficult moments in his life.
He noted that although he doesn’t care much for awards, he genuinely hopes Davido wins this one, calling him “the realest friend I’ve had in a while.”
Davido’s Grammy journey
Davido, one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures, has been nominated for the Grammys four times but has yet to clinch a win.
His partnership with Omah Lay on “With You” has been widely celebrated for its lyrical depth and smooth production, blending heartfelt emotion with the infectious rhythm of contemporary Nigerian music.
