When she was the governor of Jharkhand in 2017, she declined to sign a measure that sought to change the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act of 1908 and the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act of 1949.

The legislation aimed to preserve the land’s ownership while simultaneously granting the Tribes the freedom to exploit it for commercial purposes.
