Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence in the Nigerian squad ahead of Tuesday’s clash with South Africa.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Troost-Ekong highlighted the team’s preparation and focus.
“This game will be a new occasion. Of course, we have a level of confidence because of the preparation we’ve done. There’s no arrogance; we just focus on being ready,” he said.
Acknowledging the challenge ahead, he described Bafana Bafana as “a very good team” and noted that their previous encounter in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations had been one of the most difficult games they had played.
Despite this, Troost-Ekong expressed confidence in his teammates’ abilities.
“We have respect for South Africa, but we are confident in what we can do.”

Troost-Ekong also emphasized the unity within the squad.
“One thing I can say about this team is the unity, togetherness, and understanding. Players want to fight in the same direction, regardless of club or background. It’s a real brotherhood,” he added.
Troost-Ekong did not start Nigeria’s last game against Rwanda, with Benjamin Frederick given the opportunity to play.
He came off the bench in the 88th minute for Cyriel Dessers, helping Nigeria maintain a 1-0 lead and secure all three points.
The skipper is expected to return to the starting lineup against South Africa.
