Swiatek Puts Svitolina and Gauff On Notice with Dominant Win Over Pegula

World No.3 Iga Swiatek delivered one of her most commanding performances of the season on Wednesday, brushing aside American fifth seed Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-2 to storm into the semifinals of the Italian Open in Rome.

The match lasted just 67 minutes at the famous Foro Italico, but during that short spell, Swiatek completely dictated the pace of the contest with her sharp movement, aggressive returns, and dominance from the baseline.

Pegula struggled to find answers as the Polish star produced a performance full of confidence and composure on her favorite surface.

The victory was an important response from Swiatek, who came into the match having lost her previous two meetings against Pegula.

Despite those recent defeats, Swiatek still leads their overall head-to-head record 7-5 and remains unbeaten against the American on clay courts with a 2-0 record.

Svitolina earned her place in the final four after fighting back to defeat world No. 2 Elena Rybakina 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in an impressive quarterfinal comeback.

Swiatek holds a 4-2 advantage in her head-to-head meetings with Svitolina, but the Ukrainian will take confidence from her victory over the Polish star at Indian Wells in March 2026.

With both players showing strong form and a place in the final on the line, the semifinal in Rome is expected to be a fierce battle between two experienced competitors determined to take another step toward the title.
