Ronaldo Reached World Cup Milestone: Cristiano Ronaldo scored his seventh goal in as many tournaments to start the scoring for Portugal and Ghana after a scoreless first half at Stadium 974.
Osman Bukari’s late goal made the game tense, but quick goals from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao sealed the three points despite Andre Ayew’s equalizer.
Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2 at Stadium 974 to begin their World Cup campaign on a high note. With his penalty kick, Cristiano Ronaldo made history by becoming the first person to score in five different World Cups. Following Ghana’s Andre Ayew’s equalizer, Portugal took the lead thanks to Joao Felix and Rafael Leao.
In a lengthy opening 45, Portugal dominated possession of the ball and territory, with Ronaldo scoring on both of his opportunities. A weak first touch caused the first one to escape, and after exerting all of his efforts by climbing to meet a cross, the second one went begging when he headed wide.
After the half, things became much better. Mohammed Salisu’s foul on Ronaldo gave Portugal the lead. Ronaldo smashed the ball home from the post, but Ghana quickly equalized through Ayew after Mohammed Kudus provided inspiration.

Otto Addo decided to remove both of his forwards, and Portugal quickly jumped out to a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Felix and Ayew that Bruno Fernandes assisted on, giving Portugal control of Group H despite their underwhelming performance.
Osman Bukari’s goal revived Ghana just as it appeared to have given up, but Portugal held on to win despite playing for an additional nine minutes.
