‘Nothing to Lose’ – Omoruyi Calls for Super Eagles Rebuild with Youth

Former Nigeria international, Loveday Omoruyi has called for a major overhaul of the Super Eagles squad, insisting that the rebuilding process must begin immediately.

Speaking on the current state of the team, Omoruyi stressed that several players still in the squad should be phased out to make room for younger talents.

He noted that upcoming international friendlies are a crucial opportunity to start afresh.

“In that team, apart from Troost Ekong that has left we still have two-three players that are meant to go.” the former player argued.

“Bring some young and vibrant players, give them confidence, you know this friendly games I want to believe that is important.

“I am talking as a coach, I had to give some of the home lads an opportunity; it doesn’t matter if we lose, after all we are not going to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We have nothing to lose.”

Omoruyi’s comments align with growing sentiment among former players who believe the Super Eagles squad requires a reshuffle.

Meanwhile, head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly exploring options to strengthen the squad.

Reports indicate that he has been scouting talent across Europe, including a close look at William Osula.

Chelle is said to have opened discussions with Osula’s representatives in a bid to convince the forward to switch his international allegiance from Denmark to Nigeria.

Osula, who was born to a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, remains eligible to represent either nation.

With increasing calls for change and fresh talent, the coming months could prove decisive in shaping the future direction of the Super Eagles.
