NFF Elections Will Change Nothing – Omoruyi

Former Nigeria international, Loveday Omoruyi has expressed skepticism about meaningful change in the leadership structure of the NFF with the upcoming elections.

Speaking to brila.net, Omoruyi said he does not expect a shift in the federation’s hierarchy, arguing that entrenched political influence will continue to shape outcomes.

“We are tired. You keep playing the same game but you want a different result? it’s never going to happen,” Omoruyi stated.

“I remember Segun Odegbami was on board. Kojo Williams came and it didn’t work because it’s was a political appointment. It’s never going to happen that way.

“Someone like (Sunday) Oliseh, who has also coached the Super Eagles, wouldn’t be a bad choice.”

“We have to do things the right way. If I want contested for the chairmanship of this FA I bet you it’s not going to work, you know this country, when it comes to election you know how they operate,” he stated.

Omoruyi further suggested that despite widespread frustration among stakeholders over the repeated leadership cycle in Nigerian football, he still expects familiar figures to dominate the upcoming election process.

The next NFF elections are scheduled for September 26, in Nasarawa State.

Incumbent president, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau elected in 2022 is widely expected to seek re-election.

Although potential challengers have not been officially confirmed, the NFF has constituted a 12 member electoral committee chaired by Barrister Matthew Burka’a (SAN) to oversee the process.
