The reigning Formula 1 world champion, Max Verstappen, who is driving for Red Bull is getting ready for a tough Monaco Grand Prix. Red Bull has had a great start this season 2024 with Verstappen leading the constructors’ championship well ahead of the Ferrari drivers. However, the race coming up brings with it a new challenge altogether.

Significantly, it is believed that among the most demanding tracks in the calendar are the narrow streets and high-speed nature of the Monaco Grand Prix which is difficult for teams accustomed to wider-spaced tracks to cope with.

What bothers Verstappen are the peculiarities of the Monaco circuit such as its tight corners, elevation changes as well as the infamous tunnel part with numerous bumps on the road surface all around inside it too. These can be very hard both on the cars themselves and those who are driving them since they often result in unforeseen conditions and outcomes.

In managing speed through twisty sections where one must go over many curbs and across some severe up & down hills; he fears that these might cause problems due to handling issues over bumps & curbs by RB20 of Red Bull at present known for being good mostly in high-speed corners.

Besides acknowledging improvements made by his team in low-performance areas, Verstappen points out that this circuit always remains complicated throughout every session held there because of the different setup required from any other track together with the constant need for heat management while balancing out wear between fronts and rears.

Moreover, Verstappen is not ignorant about what has been happening in other teams where McLaren has seen a renaissance courtesy of Lando Norris who has been consistent at times faster too since winning Miami till finishing closely behind winner Imola; hence this should act as a warning signs if nothing else. Also, historically this specific race has always suited Scuderia Ferrari very well hence Charles Leclerc being considered a strong contender based not just on the fact that it’s his home event but also due to the huge support he gets here.

However hard it is, Verstappen remains hopeful of doing well in Monaco. His skills gained from years of competing in Formula 1 will work in his favor if he decides to adopt a strategic approach towards the weekend to tackle the complexities presented by Monaco track without losing sight of other drivers’ strengths. Monaco Grand Prix is expected to be quite an event and this will be a litmus test for Red Bull’s ability to respond to unique challenges based on what Max Verstappen does.

Red Bull’s Strategy For The Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most unique races on the Formula 1 calendar and Red Bull Racing has a plan designed just for it. The circuit is renowned for being narrow, tight, and one of the hardest places to overtake. This means that everything about qualifying and the race must be absolutely precise. The team will also need to make sure that their car works well around this notoriously difficult track.

According to Helmut Marko, an advisor at Red Bull Racing, “Two seconds [at Monaco] are like six anywhere else”. This quote underlines how important starting positions are at Monte Carlo because if you have a good spot at the front then even if your car is two or three seconds slower it will still win. Verstappen’s victories in Barcelona and his dominant form in general have put them in a strong position but McLaren’s win in Miami plus nearly losing out to them at Imola means they can’t afford any complacency.

Known for its narrow streets, tight corners, and lack of overtaking opportunities; the Monaco Grand Prix demands accuracy during both qualifying sessions as well as on race day itself. To win at the Monaco Grand Prix, you need to make sure that you start from the front. The importance of this was again highlighted within Barcelona when Max Verstappen won despite being slower than Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes by two seconds a lap in some cases.

The Formula 1 team of Red Bull Racing has a plan for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix that involves adjusting their car to deal with the circuit’s bumps and curbs. Speaking about it, the team’s technical director Pierre Wache said: “We … must not forget the fact our car will have to negotiate many bumps and curbs there”. He also stated that Marko addressed this issue specifically due to Monaco being such a unique track among all others on the calendar.

The Monaco Grand Prix will be held from 24th to 26th May. It’s considered one of those races that can change the whole championship. After such a fantastic start no doubt Red Bull Racing would want nothing else but win this race too. In creating exciting spectacles while driving cars at their limits or sometimes even beyond them; what sets apart drivers from each other more than anything else is skill during the Monaco GP.
