- Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, whose contract expires this summer.
- Rabiot has reportedly ‘initiated talks’ with the Premier League clubs as he considers his options.
- Juventus could make the ‘surprise decision’ to allow Rabiot to leave on a free transfer this summer.
- Liverpool have been advised against signing Rabiot, with an Italian football expert claiming he has been ‘really poor’ overall at Juventus until this season.
Newsypeople- Adrien Rabiot, the French midfielder currently competing in Euro 2024, has become a highly sought-after free agent this summer. The 29-year-old recently left Juventus after his contract expired and is now the center of a heated contest between Liverpool and two prominent Italian clubs.
While Rabiot remains focused on the national team, where he has played in all four matches so far, including a 1-0 victory over Belgium in the last 16, he is undoubtedly contemplating his future club prospects. His suspension for the quarter-final against Portugal on Friday might offer him some time to weigh his options.
Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, are reportedly at the forefront of the Premier League clubs vying for Rabiot’s signature. The Reds undertook a significant midfield overhaul last summer, adding players like Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Dominik Szoboszlai. With Thiago Alcantara’s departure at the end of last season, there is an opening in Liverpool’s midfield that Rabiot could potentially fill.
Nevertheless, Liverpool faces strong competition from Juventus and AC Milan, both keen to acquire the French international.
Juventus, led by new coach Thiago Motta, has already offered Rabiot a two-year contract worth €7 million (£5.9 million) per season, with an option to extend for an additional 12 months.
Rabiot, who grew up supporting Liverpool and admiring Steven Gerrard and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, will not make a final decision until his commitments with the French national team at Euro 2024 are concluded. This indicates that Liverpool may need to be patient in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Although Manchester United had previously shown interest in Rabiot, Liverpool now seems to be leading the race to sign him this summer. However, the Reds will need to fend off strong competition from the Italian clubs to secure the highly-rated French midfielder.
