Karim Benzema, a striker for France, may be planning a surprise trip back to Qatar to compete in the World Cup final, according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid attacker, who suffered a thigh injury the day before the tournament started, was anticipated to miss the entire competition and forced to return to Spain.

The 34-year-three-week old’s absence made it unlikely that he would be ready for the championship game, and it was also uncertain whether Didier Deschamps’ team would make it there after losing key players like Paul Pogba, Christopher Nkunku, Presnel Kimpembe, N’Golo Kante, and Lucas Hernandez to injuries.

The fact that he wouldn’t be able to participate was also foreseen by Benzema, who stated: “So reason tells me to sacrifice my place to someone who can assist our squad have a wonderful World Cup.”
Despite the grim outlook, France chose not to call up a substitute because Randal Kolo Muani had already been added to the forward line of the team after the fact.
The Ballon d’Or winner is currently back in training with his club team, though, and according to Mundo Deportivo, he might be recalled before this weekend’s match against Argentina. According to the report, Real Madrid is content to let the striker return to Qatar, and Deschamps will now make the final decision.
Despite numerous setbacks due to injuries to crucial players in the weeks leading up to the competition, Deschamps’ team has emerged as one of the best teams of the 2022 tournament.

Deschamps did not reveal any plans after France defeated Morocco, saying: “I’d want to move on to the next topic.”
Olivier Giroud, 36, of AC Milan has led France’s attack in Benzema’s absence. The striker became France’s all-time leading goal scorer during the campaign, but he might be replaced by his fellow veteran attacker if he shows he is healthy.
Along with Muani and Giroud, Antoine Griezmann has provided support in a deeper role than he typically does. Marcus Thuram of Borussia Monchengladbach, Kylian Mbappe, and Ousmane Dembele have all played in the attack.
