Oliver Bierhoff, Germany’s Technical Director Sacked

Oliver Bierhoff, Germany’s technical director, was fired earlier this week, but Flick appears to be in line to lead Germany into Euro 2024 on home territory.
Flick stated: “My coaching staff and I are optimistic about the European Championship in our own nation,” on the German Football Association (DFB) website.

“As a squad, we are capable of far more than what we demonstrated in Qatar. There was a significant chance we lost. That will teach us some valuable lessons.

“I trust the united course we’ve decided upon today with DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Aki Watzke (vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke). We all want Germany to support its national squad once more at 2024 home European Championship.
After speaking with DFB vice president Hans-Joachim Watzke and president Bernd Neuendorf, Flick discovered he would be continuing.

Neuendorf added: “We are all convinced that the 2024 European Championship in our own country represents a great opportunity for football in Germany.
“Our goal is to make this tournament a sporting success. We have full confidence in Hansi Flick that he will master this challenge together with his team.”
Flick called for a major overhaul following another poor World Cup for four-time champions Germany.

Neuendorf Reports:

“I believe that for the future of German football we also need to do things differently with training. For years we have been talking about new goalkeepers, and new wing-backs, what was always good in German football was we were able to defend well.
We all believe that hosting the 2024 European Championship in our nation will be a fantastic chance for German football, said Neuendorf. Making this tournament a sporting success is our aim. We have complete faith that Hansi Flick and his team will succeed in overcoming this hurdle.
Following another disappointing World Cup for Germany, the four-time champions, Flick demanded a significant revamp.
“I think that in order to improve German football going forward, we also need to change the way we approach training. While new goalkeepers and wingbacks have been discussed for years, German football has always been vital in our ability to defend.
“We need the fundamentals. Spain is excellent at defending and strongly emphasizes developing young athletes. Focusing on the new generation of football players will be crucial in the coming years, in my opinion.
