Coco Gauff sets up Italian Open final against Elina Svitolina

Coco Gauff reached the Italian Open final with a composed straight-set victory over Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in Rome.

The American second seed won 6-4, 6-3 to book her place in a second successive final at the Foro Italico, continuing her impressive clay-court form ahead of the French Open.

Gauff looked sharp from the opening set, using her movement and powerful baseline game to keep Cirstea under constant pressure.

Although the Romanian briefly threatened a comeback midway through the second set, Gauff quickly regained control to close out the match in one hour and 32 minutes.

The 22-year-old will now face Elina Svitolina in Saturday’s final after the Ukrainian produced a stunning 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Iga Swiatek earlier in the day.
