The season began with a goalless draw against St Johnstone, before a vital win at Ibrox against Rangers on September 3. They then suffered two consecutive defeats in December, but they bounced back with a 2-0 win over Rangers to see out the year. However, Rangers took the initiative by February and left Celtic four points behind. Two stoppage-time goals against Motherwell saw Celtic come from behind for a draw, keeping them in the title race.

In April, defeats and draws for Rangers, including the memorable 3-3 draw at Ibrox, saw Celtic take the initiative. The final push towards the title was sealed with a victory at Celtic Park and set the stage for the decisive match against Kilmarnock.

On the day of the match, Celtic put up one of the best displays of their season, beating Kilmarnock 5-0. Goals by Adam Idah, Daizen Maeda, and James Forrest, with a brace from Matt O’Riley, underlined Celtic’s dominance. More than the score line, it was about the team’s resilience and ability to perform under pressure, especially considering the historical significance of the location—Rugby Park, where Celtic had slipped before.

The title celebration was bitter-sweet, as supporters remembered the late Tommy Burns, a former Celtic and Kilmarnock player and manager, on the 16th anniversary of his death.

The win has been the direct result of good leadership by Brendan Rodgers in his third consecutive title win for the Celtic side. Brendan Rodgers had come back to Celtic amidst mixed feelings, but he really helped the team’s performance and morale.
