Casemiro Strike Sends Brazil Into Knockout Stage
Brazil will finish first in Group G in Qatar with a point against Cameroon in their final match, while the Swiss will likely advance to the knockout round with a draw against Serbia.
In the 83rd minute, Casemiro scored to give Brazil a 1-0 victory over Switzerland and advance the tournament favorites to the 2022 World Cup knockout rounds.
After 64 minutes, Vinicius Jr. was just inches away from scoring when the video assistant referee (VAR) disallowed him due to an offside in the buildup.
With one game remaining, Brazil brought on new players to help them cross the finish line and advance to the round of 16, but Casemiro eventually broke down Switzerland’s defense after they had played well for the majority of the game.
Brazil will play Cameroon next in an attempt to win the group, and Switzerland will take on Serbia in an effort to finish second.
