She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in communications and media from the University of Iowa after attending North Scott Senior High School in Eldridge, Iowa.

In August 1998, Jeff Halperin and Kari got married. Two children were born into the family. Leo is 14 years old, and their second child, Ruby, is 19 years old.

Tracy Finnegan, an electrical engineer, was her first husband.

But, Kari acknowledged that the first time she was canceled, it was heartbreaking, but she now finds humor in the circumstance.

Get me through this, she begged God as she knelt down in prayer. It hurts to say this. Will I get through this? And it succeeded. As her admirers began to show their love and support for her, she thanked God. You did that.
