The Brady Bunch features the titular family, which is headed by Mike Brady, an architect, and Carol Brady, a housewife. Mike and Carol were each single parents of three children before to getting married. Greg, Peter, and Bobby are the three boys whom Mike brought to the new family. Marcia, Jan, and Cindy were the three daughters that Carol brought. Additionally, Mike brought his maid, Alice. Don’t forget about Tiger the dog and Fluffy the cat, too.

Every week, viewers enjoyed laughing at the misadventures of the six Brady kids as they matured and learned how to live with new siblings. As stepparents, Mike and Carol also had to figure out their responsibilities.

Although he has classical training, American actor Reed is best known for playing the Brady Bunch’s father. IMDb reports that he returned to the part for the sequels and spin-offs.

Reed served as the six children’s substitute father both on and off the set. When the show wasn’t being filmed in the summer, he led them on weekend excursions and brought them to England to introduce them to Shakespeare and the country’s culture. The actors, who are now adults, are still complimentary of Reed.

What was The Brady Bunch Robert Reed Net Worth At Death At Age 59?

In May 1992, Robert Reed passed away from colon cancer. During an interview with ABC News, co-star Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady, said he had asked her to inform the young actors of his diagnosis. For years, Reed had kept his sickness a secret.

He was courageous and showed great bravery. Henderson remembered, “and he asked me if I would phone all the kids and tell them. “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” the speaker said.

Although Reed’s death was mostly due to colon cancer, his death certificate also mentioned HIV. Reed was gay, but he kept that information to himself.

“There he was, the ideal husband and father of this adorable little family. He was a miserable person off camera,” Henderson added. “But think a lot of that anger and frustration would have dissipated if Bob hadn’t had to live this double life. I didn’t ask him that. I never argued with him. RealI felt quite sorry for him since I could see how he was struggling to keep this a secret.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Robert Reed had a net worth of around $3 million at the time of his passing (inflation-adjusted).

Robert Reed Being Difficult on The Brady Bunch Set

Robert Reed was known for being a “diva” behind the scenes even though he played a charming father on The Brady Bunch and served as a surrogate father to the six young actors, according to the New York Post.

Reed had specific expectations for the way the concert should be run. He was rigorous in his research, and if something didn’t seem right, he didn’t do it. If something upset him, he occasionally even wrote the producers lengthy memoranda.

Reed, a Shakespearean actor by training, accepted the TV role because of the pay. His lack of commitment to the role led to several diversions. He frequently got drunk during his lunch breaks and then came back to the set. It caused the filmmakers to wrap up the shoot early. However, since they were typically through acting for the day, the kids hardly ever witnessed these activities.

Because of Reed’s actions, the showrunners had to remove him from several episodes, including the 1974 season finale. Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of The Brady Bunch, even admitted that if the series had gone on to the sixth season, he would have killed off Mike Brady and rewritten the plot to center on the kids’ aiding Carol in finding love.
