Raised in Manhattan, Hilton attended Dwight School and later transferred to the Marywood-Palm Valley School in California. Her upbringing in a wealthy family exposed her to a lifestyle of luxury and privilege, which would later become central themes in her public persona.

Paris Hilton Addresses Kids’ Access To Phones And Social Media
Parents from all walks of life are worried about how much time their kids spend on smartphones, with Paris Hilton joining the chorus this week. At the Wall Street Journal’s Future of Everything Festival, Hilton, 43, who is also a socialite and successful DJ, said she plans to raise her children – aged one and six months respectively – without allowing them to use social media under some “firm rules”.
“As for whether they get a phone, I’m going to say no for a while,” Paris told Entertainment Tonight. Young children’s use of tech is so worrying because they could easily stumble upon things that are just simply not suitable for their age group while online she added.

Hilton’s views on limiting how long her kids look at screens are anything but unique. In “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness” author Jonathan Haidt claims that allowing young people constant access to social networks is behind a crisis in mental health among Generation Z.
Zach Rausch an associate research scientist at NYU-Stern School of Business who led Haidt’s research project supports this conclusion. According to Rausch children who were on iPhones and social media throughout their early education years (elementary through middle school) reported higher levels of anxiety and depression than those without such experience
The most damage is done during adolescence, especially in the early stages of puberty Rausch says. From 9 to 15 years old kids can be hurt by it the most.
Haidt and Rausch offer several suggestions designed to combat cyberbullying or social media-fueled envy and sadness in teens. These include: don’t let any child have a smartphone until they’re in high school; give them only flip phones for middle schoolers; wait until 16 before letting kids sign up for Facebook etc.; forbid phones at school altogether while providing more opportunities for unstructured playtime during breaks between lessons.
Rausch stipulates that the available research has failed to find any proof that allowing kids on social media platforms early in their lives will better equip them for adulthood; on the contrary, he says such outlets generally do more harm than good.
These sentiments are shared by Paris Hilton who hopes her children will not be “addicted to social media” the way she is.
She wants them to “live in a world outside of social media and people being on their phone all the time” pointing out that too much screen time is depriving today’s youth (who should be playing outside) of their childhood because it interferes with other necessary activities like going out with friends or even just watching TV together as a family.
Penélope Cruz also joins Hilton among other celebrity moms speaking up against digital devices (smartphones included) saying they have negatively affected young minds; hence she limits how much her kids use them too. As more stars weigh into this debate regarding what age children should start using tech gadgets, some parents are already taking steps to safeguard their offspring from potential risks associated with growing up in an increasingly digitized world.
