The Cumbrian teen’s unexpected death was confirmed by the Rugby Football League (RFL) on January 11th.
“Everyone affiliated with the England Community Lions Programm was grieved to hear about the tragic demise of Logan Holgate,” it said in a heartfelt tribute to the gifted adolescent.
Logan was selected for the England Community Lions U-19s last year while he was at Salford on the U-18 pathway.
In addition to his work with Salford’s development program, he has been playing for Hensingham. This season, he was supposed to advance to the reserve team.

The terrible news has been met with reactions from the larger rugby league community.
On social media, Hensingham ARLC, the club that Holgate represented at the youth level, also offered their respects.
Before offering condolences to Logan’s family and friends, the post stated, “Logan has been with our club since he was little and had played for our open age and U18’s’ this year.”
The St. Benedict’s RUFC also released a statement that said, “All at St. Benedict’s are devastated. Logan, who was only 18 years old, was a rising star both locally and nationally in rugby.
Numerous other teams have also expressed their condolences, including West Cumbria Masters RLFC, Egremont Rangers, Distington ARL, and Wath Brow Hornets.
The Red Devils Hooker Was An Emerging Rugby Star
Logan Holgate continued his older brother’s legacy by having a significant influence on the sport.
Following in the footsteps of older brother Ellison and younger brother Fletcher, the gifted hooker carried on the family heritage by playing for the Lions.
Logan first attracted attention in 2021 when he made his Lions U-16 debut against Wales at Colwyn Bay.
He made a strong impression during trials before being chosen for the Under 19s touring group that made history in Italy last September thanks to his improving club play.
His club stated that “he was practically always present during the demanding six-game qualification day, inspiring teammates and staff with his work ethic, contagious enthusiasm, and quick wit.”
In 2022, Logan assisted England in capturing the Under-19 European Championship crown. He performed admirably in both the Semi-Final and the Championship Game as the Lions defeated Wales and then France in dramatic and moving scenes.
The team called him a smart young man and teammate who “leaves a lasting imprint on the program and staff.”
To aid Logan’s family, a website fundraising has been set up. Over £15,870 has been raised for GoFundMe.
