David Spade Donates $5000 To Burger King Employee

Kevin Ford, who went viral this week after showing off his company gifts, tells TMZ … his daughter let him know someone named David Spade donated $5,000 to his GoFundMe, but he wasn’t sure it was the comedian himself until he checked his Instagram inbox.

David slid in Kevin’s direct messages … telling him to keep it up after 27 years on the job without a break, and even cracking a joke about waiting a few more years before finally taking a day off.

Kevin tells us he’s a huge fan of David’s, so to get a donation plus some fun back and forth with Spade is surreal.

Following the release of a recent viral film, many people felt that Burger King had not adequately compensated one of its employees for nearly three decades of nonstop work. The employee, Kevin Ford, describes how the restaurant chain praised him for his 27 years of flawless attendance in the film, which you can watch below. A movie ticket, a bag of Reese’s Pieces, a Starbucks plastic cup, a lanyard, two pencils, and two packs of Life Savers were all included in the goodie bag that was presented to him.

“I’m happy about anything, I’m thankful for anything I get, I’m not that type of person, believe me. I’ve been through a lot. It’s a great company, you know, I’ve been there 27 years,” Ford said of the situation, per TMZ. “But like most big corporations, they’ve kind of lost touch with their workers, and through covid and whatever, they started cutting out programs.”

Added he, “I honestly believed that the movie ticket was one of those 20-year checks that we used to receive. Hey, they finally gave me my card, I thought. Then I realized it was only for one movie ticket, not even two. I thought, “This is just too much,” and it turned out to be made of random items they had lying about.”

Ford stated that he was only dissatisfied with the gift bag and that he was still grateful for his employment. Ford’s daughter launched a fundraiser on GoFundMe to help get a more substantial reward coming his way. But perhaps they weren’t expecting what happened next.

According to TMZ, the fundraising effort was successful very quickly, and Ford stated that he intended to use the funds to get a new car and visit his grandchildren in Texas. However, donations just kept rolling in, driving up the cash incentive and effectively putting Ford in a position to retire. When Ford’s daughter told him that David Spade had just donated $5,000 to the cause, the situation changed.Initially, Ford wasn’t sure if this was the David Spade, but when he visited Instagram, he received that confirmation. Ford had received a personal message from Spade encouraging him to “keep up the hard work.” Ford expressed his delight, thanked Spade, and said that he “may be able to take a day off” at this point. Spade responded with the comment, “Wait until year 30.”

Spade’s donation had pushed the money raised at GoFundMe for Ford to over $30,000. That number is only continuing to rise even higher because as of this writing, it has grown to more than $40,000. Perhaps hard work sometimes really can pay off, even if the money’s not coming directly from one’s actual employer.
