According to The Belleville News-Democrat, Richard Maedge’s wife found his body on December 11 while looking for holiday decorations in a storage space at their Troy residence. The 53-year-old Maedge’s body was hidden behind clothing in a crammed closet, under a stairwell, and in a storage area with a door.
Maedge’s sister informed the Belleville News-Democrat that on April 27, when his wife reported him missing, police were the first to arrive at the house. They allegedly returned there after Maedge’s sister smelled something fishy.
The smell, according to Maedge’s wife, was “never overbearing,” she told the news source. Maedge’s wife said, “He had killed himself.”
