However, a post-mortem examination conducted six days later revealed that Low had been shot, leading to a murder investigation. The police initially defended their initial treatment of the death as non-suspicious but admitted that evidence may have been lost in the delay setting up a crime scene, which happened on February 21 as soon as concerns were raised about the cause of death. As of the latest updates, no suspects have been identified in the murder of Brian Low. Among friends and others, wealthy businessman Mr Campbell himself sent his ‘deep condolences’ to the victim’s family.

On March 9, 2024, police officers conducted extensive inquiries, speaking to 145 people within a two-hour span, stopping 18 pedestrians and 118 vehicles at the scene, in the town center, and on the A827 north of Aberfeldy. This intensive effort was part of a renewed appeal for information, as detectives remain confident that the answer to the case lies within the local community. They are open-minded about the motive and are actively seeking any information that could help solve the case.

Detective Superintendent Lorna Ferguson of the Major Investigation Team emphasized the importance of remaining open-minded about a possible motive in this case and urged anyone with information who has not already spoken with the police to do so. The police are particularly interested in any dashcam, private CCTV, or doorbell footage from near the time of Low’s death. They are committed to tracing whoever is responsible as soon as possible and will continue to maintain a significant police presence in the area while the investigation is ongoing.
