Along with Ateneo guard Jeneven Bandiala and administrative assistant Victor George Capistrano from Lamitan City Hall, the previous mayor was murdered. Just days before her daughter Hannah was to graduate and receive her law degree on Sunday, the tragedy happened.
The shooting hurt Hannah, who was then brought to the hospital to receive medical attention. Law enforcement has already detained Chao.
After holding the position of mayor of Lamitan for three consecutive terms, Furigay intended to leave politics and go back to business.
