Warren approached Jope and asked her to take care of his seven-year-old granddaughter while he went into the bar. He offered her $20 to accompany his granddaughter to a nearby thrift store. Jope agreed, despite her initial confusion and concerns about Warren’s request. She took the child to a “camp” to get some food, indicating her belief that Warren was too intoxicated to care for his granddaughter safely.

Warren’s actions sparked a panic when he began asking for help, claiming his granddaughter had been kidnapped for human trafficking. This led to a frantic search involving the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deploying helicopters, drones, and K9 units to locate the missing child.

Approximately 30 minutes after the initial call, Jope returned to the parking lot with the child, having heard announcements over the PA system regarding the search for the missing girl. The child was found unharmed and was medically cleared as a precaution.

Warren was subsequently arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. He was held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a $75,000 bond. During his arrest, Warren admitted to paying Jope to watch his granddaughter while he went to the bar.

He expressed confidence in Jope’s ability to care for his granddaughter, describing her as a “decent person” he could trust. Warren’s decision to leave his granddaughter with a stranger, especially under the circumstances, has raised serious concerns about his judgment and responsibility towards his child.

The incident highlights the dangers of entrusting children to strangers, even in seemingly benign situations. It underscores the importance of responsible parenting and the potential risks associated with leaving children unsupervised, particularly in the care of individuals one does not know well. Warren’s case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of such decisions and the legal repercussions that can follow, including criminal charges for child endangerment.
