Pothole claims life of customs officer

A 54-year-old Customs officer, Etteng Ise, has d!ed in a car accident along the Ikom-Calabar Highway in Cross River State. 

The accident occurred near Alesi Village in Ikom Local Government Area at about 2:56 p.m on Monday, September 7. 

Sunday Eitokpah, the police spokesperson in Cross River, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Calabar on Monday, September 7. 

Mr Eitokpah, an assistant superintendent of police, said Mr Ise, who served at the Mfum Border in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River, lost control of his vehicle while avoiding a pothole. 

He said the vehicle veered off the road into the bush and collided with a tree. 

The victim was rushed to Holy Family Hospital, Ikom, where he was confirmed de@d. 

He said Mr Ise’s remains had been deposited at the hospital mortuary.
