‘Asisat Oshoala Women ICC Awards 2022’ Asisat Oshoala of Barcelona and Linda Caicedo of Deportivo Cali were two of the players recognized by the Women’s International Champions Cup for their contributions to women’s soccer.
Coach of the England national team Sarina Wiegman, reporters Jeff Kassouf and Anna Kessel, U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone, and Ally Chief Marketing Officer Andrea Brimmer were chosen to the third annual WICC Best XI on Monday.
Along with two other activists, Asma Mirzae and Fran Hilton, co-founders of Angel City Kara Nortman and Kansas City Current Angie Long received recognition.
Susie Fiore, the President of the WICC, remarked that the winners “work relentlessly to champion the women’s game.” “The women’s game would not have the phenomenal growth that we’re seeing today without the contributions of the 2022 honorees,” the statement reads.
Oshoala, who also represents Nigeria, became the first African woman to receive a Ballon d’Or nomination. Caicedo, a Colombian player as well, is only 17 years old. At the Women’s Copa America in 2022, she won the award for best player.
This past summer, Portland hosted the Women’s ICC tournament organized by Relevent Sports Group. Lyon was the champion.
