Argentina Ask FIFA To Wear Their Away Kit Against England

The Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the tournament for the second time in six decades, but will face a tough test against the defending champions.

Argentina wants to wear blue against England.

The reigning world champions have made a special request to FIFA ahead of their World Cup semi-final against England in Atlanta on Wednesday, asking to wear their all-blue away kit instead of their famous blue and white striped home shirt.

The request was submitted to FIFA who will make the final call on whether to grant it.

England are the designated home side for the fixture and will wear their classic white kit, meaning there is no significant colour clash that would require Argentina to change.

Their iconic blue and white stripes would work just fine.

For Lionel Messi, Wednesday night will be something completely new.

Despite playing two decades of football at the very highest level, the 39-year-old has never faced England in his entire career.

“Playing against England is special because they are a powerhouse,” Messi told ESPN Argentina.

“It’s the first time I’m going to play against them. I’ve played against everyone except England, so it will be nice for that reason too. We’ll experience it for what it is, a World Cup semi-final against a great team, and we’ll try to arrive in the best possible shape to compete again.”

Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 in extra time in the quarterfinals, with goals from Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez coming after Dan Ndoye had equalised for Switzerland.

England beat Norway 2-1 in extra time, with Jude Bellingham scoring both goals.

The Argentines may rely on their historical jersey kit, which legendary Diego Maradona used to score the ‘Hand of God’.

But whether or not Argentina will proceed to the final of the tournament will solely depend on their individual performances, or maybe eventually, some lucky old jersey kit.
