Super Falcons forward, Chioma Okafor has spoken publicly for the first time since not making a single appearance at the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), assuring that she remains patient and confident in her journey with the national team.
Okafor, who switched her international allegiance from Malawi (her mother’s country) to Nigeria ahead of the tournament, was an unused squad member throughout the campaign.
Her omission from matchday selections was reportedly due to a combination of injury setbacks and tactical decisions by the coaching crew.
Despite not getting any minutes on the pitch, the forward maintained a positive outlook and expressed her gratitude for being part of the Super Falcons’ setup, and positive faith in her timing.
“This whole time I knew that I had to stay patient and my time will come. I can’t rush into anything,” Okafor said.
“I have to make sure that I’m going on my time and that everything is going to line up in the way it’s supposed to.”
She further shared her determination and readiness for the future:
“So I’ll remain patient, my time will come and when it does I’ll make the most out of it.”
Chioma Okafor insists she remains composed and matured in the face of disappointment. She vows her commitment to the national team, and believes her future is with the Super Falcons. And with youth on her side and talent in abundance, it seems only a matter of time before her opportunity arrives.
