Scottie Scheffler, a well-known professional golfer, got himself into some legal trouble at Valhalla Golf Club during the 2024 PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. According to reports, the trouble began when he refused to follow police orders while driving a PGA courtesy car and sped off, thereby dragging a Louisville police officer to the ground.

This happened outside the club, where officers were investigating the death of a volunteer who had been hit by a bus during the tournament. Arrest, handcuffing, and brief incarceration on Friday just before it started did not prevent Scheffler from returning to his order tee time, although he went out of contention for the tournament later on.

Following arrest, he faced multiple charges, including second-degree felony assault against an officer and third-degree criminal mischief, among others, related to disregarding traffic signals while driving through a crash site with pedestrian fatalities despite being told by law enforcement to stop the vehicle.

The incident has since been described as a misunderstanding by Steve Romines, Scheffler’s attorney, who argues that his client never meant disobeying any police’s order. Scheffler was supposed to appear in court on Tuesday, May 21; however, this date got pushed forward to June 3 at 9 a.m. after the district judge handling the matter made a decision to that effect.
