Newsypeople- The Italian football world has witnessed a significant turn of events, with Fiorentina deciding not to exercise the option of buying Arthur Melo from Juventus, meaning the Brazilian midfielder will go back to the Old Lady. This move will mark a significant moment in Arthur’s career, which has taken him via some of the biggest football clubs in Europe, such as Barcelona and Liverpool, before finding his way to Juventus.
Arthur Melo was born on August 12, 1996, in Goiana, Brazil. His decorated career started at Gremio, moved him to Barcelona, where he played 72 times while making a contribution to a La Liga title and a Spanish Super Cup.

Arthur’s international career with Brazil has been highlighted with 22 caps and a Copa America title to boot. However, his career at Juventus has been marred by a string of loans, including a Liverpool spell in which he was tormented by injuries and made only one appearance.
The loan deal between Juventus and Fiorentina was announced amidst fanfare, with Arthur extending his contract with Juventus until June 2026 before joining Fiorentina on loan for the 2023/24 season. The deal also included an option for the purchase of Arthur by Fiorentina for €20m at the end of the loan period. In addition, the deal also saw Fiorentina pay €2m for the loan, and a potential additional €2m in bonuses based on sporting achievements.
However, the latest decision by Fiorentina not to exercise the purchase option means Arthur will make a return to Juventus, for whom he initially signed from Barcelona in the summer of 2020. He has made 63 appearances and scored once for Juventus but was never part of the plans Massimiliano Allegri had for the future, hence his loan move to Fiorentina.
This turn of events leaves Arthur’s future in a predicament, heading back to a Juventus outfit that has been busy looking to change faces in its squad. The reason behind Fiorentina not making the transfer of Arthur permanent could be various: either he did not impress them enough, or the club was of the opinion that this signing would not be very viable in terms of finance, or there was a change in the strategic plans that Fiorentina has for the coming season.
