Deschamps started leading the team in 2012, and now he will get them ready for the World Cup in 2026. His contract is going on until the summer of that year.
France’s journey in Euro 2024 made them finish second place in their group, where they played with Austria, Netherlands, and Poland.
After that, they won against Belgium and Portugal during the knockout stages but lost to Spain with a score of 1-2 in the semifinals. Deschamps cited inefficiency in front of goal as the primary reason for their defeat.
The French team will start their 2024/25 Nations League matches in September, playing against Belgium, Italy, and Israel during the group stage.
With Deschamps as the leader, France has done very well. They won the World Cup in 2018 and made it to the finals of both the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2016.
The choice to keep Deschamps even after not making it past the semifinals shows that the French Football Federation believes he can bring more success in future World Cups and other events.
