Newsypeople- Barcelona have appointed Hansi Flick as their new head coach on a two-year contract until 2026. Flick, the former manager of Germany and Bayern Munich, is tasked with revitalizing Barcelona’s fortunes after the club failed to win any trophies this season under Xavi Hernández, who was terminated on Friday.
Barcelona’s official statement praised Flick’s teams for their “high-pressing, intense, and audacious style of play” that has earned him numerous accolades at both the club and international levels.

Flick, born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1965, has an impressive coaching resume, having started his career in 1996 and later serving as Jürgen Löw’s assistant with the German national team from 2006 to 2014, during which time they won the 2014 World Cup.
After a successful stint as Bayern Munich’s head coach from 2019 to 2021, where he led the team to a historic treble, Flick took over the German national team but was dismissed in September 2023 following a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup. Barcelona’s choice of Flick is seen as a move to bring back their high-intensity, possession-based style of play that has been a hallmark of their success in the past.
In his first comments as Barcelona’s new head coach, Hansi Flick expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating that it is an “honor and a dream” to manage the legendary club.
He also highlighted the similarities between Barcelona’s philosophy and his own, emphasizing their shared focus on ball possession and attacking football. Flick’s appointment is a clear statement of intent from Barcelona as they aim to return to the top of European football.
