Newsypeople- Aston Villa has officially announced that Unai Emery, their head coach, recently agreed to a fresh deal that will tie him to the club for five more years up to 2029. This comes as a reward for the Spaniard having secured a fourth-spot finish in last season’s English Premier League – a position that saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 1983.
Emery took charge of the team when they were only three points clear of the drop zone back in October 2022. However, he has managed to turn things around as they finished seventh in 2022/23 and consequently earned themselves a place in Europe after 13 years out. Their title challenge this campaign lasted until Christmas before petering due to fatigue brought about by participation in the Europa Conference League where they were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Olympiacos.

Speaking about his delight at penning down this new contract, the 50-year-old said that he is thrilled about extending his stay at such an ambitious club. He also mentioned that what made him do so was mainly because everything around him has been great since he joined. For instance, he praised the support accorded by the owners – Wes Edens and Nasef Sawiris among others – as well as harmony among staff members which has made him feel at home more than ever before.

He further stated while celebrating their upcoming 150th anniversary next year; there is much anticipation ahead especially now that Unai will continue leading this great team forward.
Unai Emery is no stranger to success having won the UEFA Europa League four times with Sevilla and Villarreal respectively besides clinching the 2017/2018 French Ligue 1 title at Paris Saint-Germain where he spent two seasons only being sacked in his second year despite leading them both campaigns before taking charge of Arsenal from 2018/19 onwards.
