The 21-year-old Spaniard overcame a slow start and a two-sets-to-one deficit to outlast the 22-year-old Italian in a battle of two of the brightest young stars in men’s tennis.

Sinner, who was set to become the new world No. 1 in the ATP rankings on Monday, raced out to a one-set lead by winning the opener 6-2.
He continued to pressure Alcaraz in the early stages of the second set, breaking him to take a 2-0 advantage. However, Alcaraz regained his footing, breaking back immediately and then holding serve to get on the board at 1-2. The Spaniard then broke Sinner again to level the match at one set apiece.

Sinner reasserted control in the third set, breaking Alcaraz twice to win it 6-3 and move back in front. But Alcaraz refused to go away, breaking Sinner in the opening game of the fourth set. The two traded breaks midway through the set before Alcaraz held serve to level the match at two sets all.
In the decisive fifth set, Alcaraz broke Sinner in the opening game and consolidated for a 2-0 lead.
Sinner fought back to get one of the breaks back, but Alcaraz held firm to take the set 6-3 and clinch the victory after over four hours of play. With the win, Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach a Grand Slam final on all three surfaces (hard, grass, clay).
The epic semifinal clash between Alcaraz and Sinner, who were facing each other for the ninth time with the head-to-head tied at 4-4, lived up to the hype as the two future superstars of men’s tennis put on a show for the fans at Roland Garros.
Alcaraz’s victory sets up a final showdown on Sunday against either Alexander Zverev or Casper Ruud, with the Spaniard aiming to capture his second Grand Slam title.
