Newsypeople- AC Milan has appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager, marking the end of Stefano Pioli’s tenure at the club. Fonseca, a 51-year-old Portuguese coach, has signed a three-year deal with the Italian club, keeping him at the San Siro Stadium until 2027.
Fonseca comes to AC Milan after a successful stint at French Ligue 1 club Lille, where he guided the team to a fourth-place finish in the 2023-2024 season. Prior to his time at Lille, Fonseca managed Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk, leading the Ukrainian side to three consecutive league and cup doubles.

His impressive track record includes securing the Ukrainian league and cup double three times with Shakhtar Donetsk and winning the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto.
Paulo Fonseca’s appointment marks a fresh start for AC Milan, who finished fourth in the 2022-2023 Serie A season and failed to win any silverware in the 2023-2024 season. The club had announced the exit of Stefano Pioli a couple of days before their last game of the season, and Fonseca was chosen after the club failed in moves for Sergio Conceicao and Julen Lopetegui.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a former Milan forward and now representing the owner, confirmed the appointment at a press conference, stating that the team wanted Fonseca to bring his identity of game and offensive style to the team. Ibrahimovic praised Fonseca’s ability to coach young players and give teams a tactical identity, which he believes will be beneficial for AC Milan.
Fonseca’s coaching career began with Portuguese club Porto, where he won the Portuguese Super Cup in 2013. He then moved on to manage Ukrainian powerhouse Shakhtar Donetsk, leading them to three consecutive league and cup doubles. His experience in managing Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk has given him a wealth of knowledge in European football, which he will bring to AC Milan.
The new AC Milan manager has a proven track record of success, having secured the Ukrainian league and cup double three times with Shakhtar Donetsk and winning the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto.
His appointment is seen as an effort to bring the side back to their winning form, specifically after finishing the season without a single piece of silverware after a disappointing domestic league and UEFA Champions League performance.
Fonseca will be tasked with rebuilding the team and bringing success back to the San Siro Stadium. With his extensive experience and proven success, Milan fans are eager to see what the future holds for their team under Fonseca’s leadership.
