Government and industry leaders have praised Hoo’s proposals. He was also given the “Bintang Bakti Masyarakat” by Singapore in 2001 in recognition of his outstanding commercial achievements.

In January 2001, Fortune Magazine named him as the runner-up for Asia’s Businessman of the Year. At the age of 45, Wong became the youngest billionaire in Singapore.

He was the first Singaporean businessman to be named Singaporean Businessman of the Year twice, in 1992 and 1997. He was named “Person of the Year” by the Singapore Computer Society in 2002 for his contributions to the IT industry.

Sim Wong Hoo’s wife, Karen Ngui, and their daughter are currently mourning the death of their loved one.

In a Thursday statement with the Singapore Exchange, the Company’s board of directors noted that Sim “died peacefully,” without providing any other information. He was 67.

Karen, Sim’s Singaporean wife, and he have been together for more than ten years. The couple is also the delighted parents of two kids.

But like the spouses of other famous people, Karen wishes to keep her personal details private. The internet now requires more of her data as a result.

Not to add that he had previously emphasized that having children and getting married would entail obligations to his family and less freedom to pursue his aspirations.

He asserted that being single had enabled him to take more chances and experience great success. But he eventually wed and created a great family.

 

Where Are Sim Wong Hoo Family Now?

Sim Wong, who died on January 4, 2023, at the age of 67, left the entire Hoo family with deep sorrow.

Sim grew up in a Singaporean Zhao’an Hokkien family and went to Bukit Panjang Government High School.

He graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Electrical & Electronic Engineering department, formerly known as Ngee Ann Technical College, in 1975.

On January 4, he tragically left behind his family, according to the Company. “The Board expresses its profound regret over the demise of Wong Hoo and sends its condolences to his family,” the company wrote in a Thursday statement with the Singapore Exchange.

Following Sim’s death, the board of Creative appointed independent non-executive director Lee Kheng Nam as acting chairman and independent non-executive director Ng Kai Wa as acting vice-chairman for a transitional period, according to Yahoo.

The board has also appointed Song Siow Hui, President of the Company’s Creative Labs Business Unit, as interim CEO.

 

Sim Wong Hoo Career Explored

Sim began working after earning his degree. He began his career in the private engineering sector.

Sim also spent a year working as an engineer in the private sector after finishing the mandatory National Service.

Sim established Creative in 1981 and served as the organization’s first chairman and CEO.

He was once recognized as a well-known businessman in the city-state of Singapore and served as chair of Technopreneurship 21’s Private Sector Committee.

Similar to this, Wong Hoo coined the phrase “No U-turn syndrome” to describe the traditional Singaporean mentality of waiting for clearance from higher authorities before acting in his 1999 book Chaotic Thoughts From The Old Millennium.
