Joe’s mother is a devout Christian in every way. She brought him, along with his four siblings, to Palm Beach County’s church. Milton discovered confidence in the Orlando church pew that God wanted him to go to Michigan rather than Georgia.
Joe was never without a football growing up, whether he was on the bus or walking. When he was younger, his parents were stern to keep him from going down the wrong path. They placed a high value on education.
If he received a failing mark on his report card, his mother would take away his football until he improved his grade.

Joe Milton has a football-playing relative named D J Boldin from Pahokee, Florida.
Boldin received a scholarship to play collegiately at Wake Forest. Later, the football coach signed with the Detroit Lions and played for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League in 2010 and 2011. He is now the head coach at Lake Erie College.
