Newsypeople – Gavin Plumb, a 37-year-old former security guard, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years for planning to kidnap, rape, and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby. This case emphasized Plumb’s disturbing history, which included attempted abductions and false imprisonment.
In 2006, he frightened two women on trains, trying to force them off at secluded spots. One of these victims, known as Maria, has now spoken about her frightening encounter with Plumb.
While Maria was on her way to work as cabin crew, Plumb approached her on the train and sat directly opposite her. He handed her a note that read: “Get off the train with me, be quiet, don’t do anything, get off the train with me and nothing will happen to anybody.”
Maria claims Plumb had rope and a replica gun with him, which left her feeling “completely frozen and scared.” Despite Plumb’s threats, Maria refused to leave the train at the next stop, a secluded village surrounded by bushes and woodland, knowing that Plumb could “do anything.”
Just a few days later, Plumb tried to kidnap another woman, who was also in an air hostess uniform from the same airline, but she managed to escape unharmed.
Maria believes that if Plumb had been properly punished for his earlier attempted kidnappings, his later, more serious crimes against Holly Willoughby might have been prevented. She expressed her belief that lack of punishment only encouraged him.
She said:
“He could get away with whatever he did if he wasn’t punished – so why not try again?” Upon learning about Plumb’s plan to kidnap, rape, and murder Willoughby, Maria was deeply affected, struggling to sleep and experiencing heightened anxiety. She expressed pity for Plumb, stating that “he has nothing in life” and that “a person with nothing to lose” is “more dangerous” and has “no control over himself.”
