Private Seán Rooney grew raised in the working-class housing estate of Muirhevnamor, Dundalk, Co. Louth, and was entrenched in the Irish Defence Forces from a young age. When Seán was 12, he went to Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal. He maintained a deep connection to his hometown, however.
