- Paul Mescal is playing the role of Lucius Verus in the highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 film Gladiator.
- To prepare for the physically demanding role, Mescal underwent an intense training regimen that included lifting heavy weights, squatting, pushing, and pulling.
- The training was focused on building muscle mass and strength without looking “false or overly aesthetic”.
Newsypeople- With the eagerly awaited sequel to the Oscar-winning movie ‘Gladiator’ coming closer to its release on November 22nd, main actor Paul Mescal has shared his thoughts about how tough it was to get physically ready for playing Lucius Verus.
Recently, during an interview on Capital Radio with Jordan North, the 28-year-old actor from Ireland talked about how tough the training was.
Paul Mescal admitted it was very hard but also said he is thankful for this chance and feels it helped him grow as a person.
“It is a first-world problem,” Mescal said. “I had all the comforts one could ask for.” I had a great trainer. People telling me what and when to eat.” Even with difficulties, the actor showed his liking for the work, saying, “I kind of loved it. Sure, sometimes it gets tiring.”
Paul Mescal ‘s hard work for his role shows clearly in the behind-the-scenes pictures posted by his co-star Pedro Pascal on social media.
In one picture, Mescal is wearing full gladiator clothes—he has a burlap skirt, gold wristbands, and a beard—which reveals how much he changed himself physically for this character.
Pascal, who acts as Marcus Acacius in the movie, spoke highly of Mescal’s dedication. He called him “Brick Wall Paul” because of his remarkable physical change. Pascal said,
“He became so strong.” “I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again.”
Mescal’s path to becoming Lucius Verus has changed him a lot, in body and mind.
“Muscles start to grow, and some people might think that looks nice,” he told Vanity Fair. “But there is something special about feeling strong; it gives you a different kind of confidence.” “You hold yourself in another way. This affects you mentally, and it helps for the movie.”
As the release time gets closer, Mescal feels very excited about the project. “Gladiator 2 comes to your desk and you just cannot say no,” he shared with AnOther Magazine. “But for a movie this big, and to work with Ridley Scott, it is an easy decision.”
The actor’s commitment to the role and his readiness to face training challenges have surely added excitement to the film. Fans are very excited about the chance to see Mescal act strongly as Lucius Verus in the much-awaited sequel of the famous ‘Gladiator.’
