This time around writer/director Rian Johnson said each Benoit Blanc mystery will reflect the “here and now” dealing with current events. The name of this upcoming installment – “Wake Up Dead Man” – gives away some clues about its plot; Johnson revealed that it is another entry in the series distinct from what came before.
The third “Knives Out” is shaping up to have an all-star ensemble cast, with reports swirling that Lindsay Lohan and Tom Hardy may also be close to signing on. Shooting locations are still being finalized but filming is expected to begin this summer season.
Fans are eagerly anticipating part three thanks in no small part to how much success followed after parts one and two hit theaters worldwide; not only was “Knives Out” praised for its ensemble performances as well as being a fun twist on murder mysteries old-fogey critics could love (Rotten Tomatoes gave it 97%), but then along came another great film titled Glass Onion which critics liked just about equally much so that one got a 91% rating also from RT!
Knives Out 3 Project In Details
The title and release details for the third film in Rian Johnson’s Benoit Blanc detective series have been revealed by the acclaimed director of the popular mystery movies “Knives Out” and “Glass Onion”. Scheduled to be released in 2025 on Netflix, the forthcoming film is titled “Wake Up Dead Man” which would see it continue what he has described as his “sequels” deal with the streaming service.
Fans are excitedly waiting for more information about this new chapter through theories that have been spurred by the revelation of the title accompanied by a mysterious teaser video. For instance, although no specific plot points are given away, Craig’s last two adventures were light-hearted romps around upper-class mansions but with their titles, Abrams’ subplot device for Lost may hint at something more supernatural occurring this time around. While nothing concrete has been revealed about what fans can expect from ‘Wake up Dead Man’, Johnson teased they will get everything they want and don’t know what they want at the same time!
In 2019 director Rian Johnson released the first “Knives Out” which introduced us to Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc; a brilliant detective hired to solve a complex murder case. It was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful grossing over $311 million worldwide while also being nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar award.
Having made a name for himself by creating unique narratives within the mystery genre, Johnson stated on Twitter how excited he is about making another detective story – I love whodunnits, but if there’s one aspect of these types of films that excites me more than anything else it’s their changeability; they can be anything. He went on further to add that this was what fascinated him most when working on “Knives Out 3” because Agatha Christie is different from John Dickson Carr who has another feel entirely.
The follow-up film, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” made its debut on Netflix in 2022 with a fresh set of characters caught up in a different but also confusing murder case. The movie was commended for its intelligent script, exciting performances, and cleverness in keeping the audience guessing until the very end.
Given how well-received these initial two installments were, many people are looking forward to “Wake Up Dead Man” and wondering what kind of mystery will be awaiting Benoit Blanc this time around. Whether or not there will be a limited theatrical release before hitting streaming services like there was for “Glass Onion” remains unknown at this point; however, subscribers can expect it will be available for streaming on Netflix by 2025.
In preparation for “Wake Up Dead Man” entering production soon, fans should rewatch “Knives Out” and its sequel which are both currently streaming on Prime Video or Netflix. The next episode in the life of our favorite detective promises to deliver more thrills than ever before with Daniel Craig back as Benoit Blanc under Rian Johnson’s direction once again taking charge of this beloved franchise for another round full of secrets waiting to unfold.
