Zambian Student Arrested In Russia: Ms. Rebecca Ziba
Rebecca Ziba, a student from Zambia, was detained in Russia on suspicion of promoting Nazism. She was detained for twerking at the war memorial on suspicion of supporting Nazism.
As of this writing, the female student from Zambia is 21 years old. She was recognized by the local media as Tionge (Rebecca) Ziba, a citizen of Zambia.
On Instagram, she shared a video of herself twerking in front of the memorial. As a result, the female student who posted the video was jailed.
Ziba can be seen twerking near to a Memorial Glory in Khanty-Mansiysk as seen in the video clip.
The video was quickly removed by the Russian authorities because her behavior was viewed as dishonorable and offensive. The student from Zambia was also charged in accordance with Criminal Code Part 4 of Art. 354.1. Rehabilitating nazism is the charge.
She could be sentenced to at least three years in jail and a $35k fine if proven guilty (3 million roubles). Therefore, her behavior, in the opinion of the alarmed Russian authorities, desecrated a monument to Russian military prowess.
What Did Rebecca Ziba Do?
Ziba, a student from Zambia, was detained because she was twerking at the war memorial. When she uploaded a video of herself dancing in Khanty-Mansiysk to Instagram with derogatory captions, the Russian authorities reacted.
Shaking b**ty for the dead, confident they’re (referring to the military) sleeping good tonight, read her original caption.
Her Instagram post has also been removed by the authorities.
The Memorial of Glory in Khanty-Mansiysk honors the soldiers who gave their lives fighting Nazi Germany in World War II.
However, she was still being investigated, and the authorities released her apology video.
Is She Freed Now?
Rebecca Ziba, a student there, has reportedly been released on bail by the Russian authorities, according to the foreign ministry of Zambia.
The Zambian student is shown being held in what looks to be an interrogation chamber in a video that the Russian investigators published. She also expressed her regret for her acts by saying:
I never knew what the memorial sign signifies. I didn’t want my clip to be insulting to the dead. I deeply apolosise for my offensive action.
However, Ziba’s case has been given to Khanty-Mansiysk prosecutors. Also unclear is if she could seek legal assistance from her end.
