Senegal has been thrown into mourning following the heartbreaking death of young goalkeeper Cheikh Touré, who was found dead in Ghana, according to a statement released by Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs.
Authorities say the promising footballer was deceived by fraudsters posing as football scouts, who made him believe he had been invited to Ghana for a professional trial with a top club.
Believing his football dreams were at last within reach, Cheikh set out full of hope, unaware he was stepping straight into a trap.
According to reports, the individuals behind the false invitation kidnapped the young goalkeeper upon his arrival and later demanded a ransom from his family.
Despite desperate efforts, his relatives could not meet the kidnappers’ demands. In a tragic turn of events, the perpetrators ended Cheikh’s life.
The Senegalese Ministry has confirmed that an investigation is underway in close coordination with Ghanaian authorities, with efforts focused on bringing the culprits to justice and uncovering the full details surrounding the case.
Cheikh Touré, known to friends and teammates as a humble, dedicated, and talented goalkeeper, had a bright future ahead of him.
