Gayle King says she never expected a public apology from her ex-husband after recently revisiting the moment he cheated on her, but admitted his words meant a lot to her.
Speaking in New York City, the veteran TV anchor reacted to comments made by her former husband, William Bumpus, who publicly apologised for the affair that ended their marriage years ago. King said she was shocked Bumpus even spoke publicly about the situation because he is “a notoriously private person.”
She added that the apology was “super meaningful” to her and said the support she has received from women who have experienced similar betrayals has also touched her deeply.

Bumpus recently apologised again to King, their children Kirby and Virgil, and their families for the pain caused when King discovered him cheating with someone she considered a close friend. According to Bumpus, King has every right to share her story publicly, adding that the pair now maintain a positive relationship despite their past.
King appeared to confirm that during her latest comments, suggesting the two are now on good terms. Bumpus also revealed that King recently reached out to wish his teenage daughter, Poet, a happy 16th birthday, a gesture he described as thoughtful and classy.
